A software inventory audit using Zscaler Digital Experience data. It shows which software and versions are installed across an organization's devices.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to filter installed software by location, department, user, or device, and examine version distribution and rollout coverage.
Why use it?
It removes the need to gather installation and version information manually. It helps find outdated software and check compliance across the device fleet.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00098 $0.03087
Opus 5 $0.00049 $0.01543
Sonnet 5 $0.00020 $0.00617
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00309

Security

Grade A, and why

zdx-audit-software-inventory scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

ZDX: Audit Software Inventory

Keywords

software inventory, installed software, software audit, compliance, outdated software, software versions, device software, security audit, vulnerability assessment, software deployment, patch management

Overview

Audit the software installed across devices in the organization using ZDX's software inventory data. This skill retrieves installed software with filtering by location, department, geolocation, user, or device, then drills into specific software packages to understand version distribution and deployment scope.

Use this skill when: An administrator needs to audit software compliance, identify devices with outdated or vulnerable software versions, assess patch rollout progress, or inventory software across the fleet.

Data Presentation Requirements

All tables are rendered by the HTML template, not by hand. Do not author <table>, <thead>, <tbody>, <tr>, <th>, or <td> markup in your reply or in the report. You produce a JSON payload (see Data Payload Contract) and the template at ./templates/report.html.template turns it into the styled, sortable, exportable tables shown in ./example/report.example.html.

After each table, provide:

  1. Detailed analysis explaining the compliance posture, version distribution, and risk areas
  2. Security assessment highlighting EOL, outdated, or vulnerable software
  3. Next steps / resolution with specific remediation actions (patching, MDM push, upgrade plans) prioritized by risk

Use color-coded status indicators in tables:

  • Green: Current version, no known vulnerabilities
  • Yellow: One version behind or approaching EOL
  • Red: EOL, known vulnerabilities, or significantly outdated

⚠ HTML OUTPUT — READ THIS BEFORE PRODUCING ANY HTML

There is exactly one acceptable way to produce the HTML output:

  1. Read the template from disk — do NOT inline a copy in your response. The template lives next to this SKILL.md inside the skill's package, at:

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
