zins-investigate-security-incident

zins-investigate-security-incident is a skill for Claude Code from zscaler/zscaler-mcp-server. It costs 83 tokens per session (1,870 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A method for investigating security incidents in Zscaler Analytics by connecting threat, firewall, web-traffic, and shadow-IT records into a timeline.

In plain words
What is it for?
Reviewing malware, phishing, data-exfiltration, policy, or unusual-traffic events and examining related applications, users, locations, and controls.
Why use it?
It helps analysts understand what happened, when it happened, and how widely an event may have spread.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00083 $0.01870
Opus 5 $0.00042 $0.00935
Sonnet 5 $0.00017 $0.00374
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00187

Security

Grade A, and why

zins-investigate-security-incident scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Z-Insights: Investigate Security Incident

Keywords

security incident, threat investigation, cyber incident, malware detected, phishing, threat analytics, incident response, shadow IT, threat trends, firewall blocks, web traffic anomaly, security analytics

Overview

Investigate security incidents by correlating multiple Z-Insights data sources: threat categories, cyber incident logs, firewall actions, web traffic patterns, and shadow IT discovery. This skill builds a timeline and context around security events to support incident response and threat hunting.

Use this skill when: A security analyst needs to investigate detected threats, analyze incident trends, understand the scope of a security event, or review shadow IT and CASB findings.

Workflow

Follow this 6-step process to investigate a security incident.

Step 1: Understand the Incident Scope

Gather from the analyst:

  • What type of event? (malware, phishing, data exfiltration, policy violation, anomalous traffic)
  • When did it occur or when was it detected?
  • Specific user, location, or application involved?
  • Alert or ticket reference number?

Step 2: Check Threat Analytics

Get threat super categories:

zins_get_threat_super_categories()
```text
This returns high-level threat categories (malware, phishing, spyware, command & control, etc.) with counts. Identify which category the incident falls under.
**Get detailed threat classifications:**
```text
zins_get_threat_class()
```text
This breaks down threats into specific types (virus, trojan, ransomware, exploit kit, cryptominer, etc.). Look for spikes or anomalies in the relevant class.
---
### Step 3: Analyze Cyber Incidents
**Get incident overview:**
```text
zins_get_cyber_incidents()
```text
**Get incidents by location to identify the source:**
```text
zins_get_cyber_incidents_by_location()
```text
**Get daily trends to identify when the incident started:**
```text
zins_get_cyber_incidents_daily()
```text
zins-investigate-security-incident is a skill published in the GitHub repository zscaler/zscaler-mcp-server (50 stars, last pushed 4d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 83 tokens to every session and 1,870 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
