alterlab-grant-reporting

alterlab-grant-reporting is a skill for Claude Code from AlterLab-IEU/AlterLab-Academic-Skills. It costs 203 tokens per session (2,388 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A report-writing aid for grants that have already been awarded. It covers progress and final reports for funders including NIH, NSF, and Horizon Europe or ERC.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to draft annual, interim, or final reports, public project-outcomes reports, milestone updates, budget-versus-actual explanations, and no-cost-extension or rebudgeting justifications.
Why use it?
It helps teams meet different funders' required report structures and explain progress, spending, milestones, and delays. It is for reporting on existing awards, not for writing new proposals.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00203 $0.02388
Opus 5 $0.00102 $0.01194
Sonnet 5 $0.00041 $0.00478
Haiku 4.5 $0.00020 $0.00239

Security

Grade A, and why

alterlab-grant-reporting scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/report_deadlines.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 178 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Grant Reporting — Post-Award Deliverables Across Funder Formats

Post-award is where money already won has to be kept: funders release the next tranche only when a compliant progress report lands on time, and they claw back or flag awards when reports slip or numbers don't reconcile. This skill drafts those deliverables — progress/annual reports, final reports, milestone and deliverable tracking, budget-vs-actual narratives, and no-cost-extension (NCE) and rebudgeting justifications — in the exact shape each major funder demands.

It is the post-award counterpart to the pre-award proposal skills: it never writes a new proposal or a fresh budget request. It reports against an award that already exists.

When to Use This Skill

Use this skill when the user needs to:

  • Draft an NIH RPPR (Research Performance Progress Report) — Annual, Interim, or Final — section by section.
  • Draft an NSF annual or final project report, or the public-audience Project Outcomes Report.
  • Draft a Horizon Europe / ERC periodic or final report — the technical narrative (Part B) and the structured-table / financial-statement framing.
  • Track milestones and deliverables against a workplan and write the status narrative.
  • Write a budget-vs-actual (variance) narrative explaining over/under-spend by category.
  • Justify a no-cost extension or a rebudgeting / virement request.
  • Work out when each report is due from the award start/end dates (scripts/report_deadlines.py).

Does NOT Trigger — route these elsewhere

The request is really about… Route to
Writing a new proposal / project description for NSF, NIH, DOE, DARPA, NSTC (pre-award) alterlab-research-grants
A TÜBİTAK proposal (1001, 1002, etc.) — Turkish funder, pre-award alterlab-tubitak-proposal
Akademik Teşvik annual incentive-points application (ÜAK) alterlab-akademik-tesvik
A data management plan / KVKK-compliant DMP for the proposal stage alterlab-kvkk-dmp

Program / department accreditation assessment & assurance-of-learning reports alterlab-accreditation-aol

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
