animation-quality-gate

animation-quality-gate is a skill for Claude Code from CheshireJCat/blender. It costs 58 tokens per session (432 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of animation-quality-gate, MIT.

A quality-check guide for Blender animations that reviews rendered frames before the animation is accepted. It checks readability, silhouette stability, flicker, framing, texture changes, motion, layer separation, and export behavior.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it after animation renders to create contact sheets, find visual failures, review motion and texture coherence, check export limitations, and guide refinement when the result looks bad.
Why use it?
It prevents an animation from being treated as finished merely because it rendered successfully.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00058 $0.00432
Opus 5 $0.00029 $0.00216
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00086
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00043

Security

Grade A, and why

animation-quality-gate scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/animation_contact_sheet.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Animation Quality Gate

Do not accept an animation because it rendered. Accept it only after a contact sheet and failure analysis pass.

Review dimensions

  1. Subject dominance — the main asset remains readable and is not overwhelmed by HUD/context.
  2. Layer separation — base subject, texture state, glow, HUD, and background are separate enough to control.
  3. Silhouette stability — silhouette stays constant unless deliberate morph is specified.
  4. Texture coherence — no ugly full-image crossfade, crop pop, or unregistered morph.
  5. Motion coherence — arcs/dots have a reason, restrained speed, and coherent easing.
  6. Export truth — the final export can reproduce the effect or limitations are explicit.
  7. Frame aesthetics — sampled frames look good as stills.

RALPH trigger

If a user calls an animation ugly/bad, stop rebuilding immediately. First:

  • collect preview frames/contact sheet;
  • identify the failed dimension(s);
  • invoke quality-refinement-autoloop if the stack lacks a method;
  • add/refine generic skills only after sanitization;
  • only then rebuild the animation.

Hard gates

  • No final animation without a contact sheet.
  • No GLB claim for texture swaps implemented only with Blender Python handlers.
  • No decorative context elements in base avatar export unless requested.
  • No morph that violates locked geometry constraints.

Scripts

  • scripts/animation_contact_sheet.py builds a contact sheet and frame-to-frame difference report from rendered frames.
Files

What ships with it

1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
