designer-animation

designer-animation is a skill for Claude Code from dcc-mcp/dcc-mcp-substance3d-designer. It costs 26 tokens per session (578 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A Substance 3D Designer skill that changes a graph input resembling time or animation and exports the resulting textures as an ordered frame set. It does not create keyframes, animation curves, or video clips.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to discover suitable time-like inputs, sweep them over a bounded range, and export verified texture frames for later assembly into an animation or other sequence.
Why use it?
Designer does not expose a normal timeline through its Python interface. This provides frame-like results from repeated graph evaluations while making clear that playback and frame rate must be handled elsewhere.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00026 $0.00578
Opus 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00231
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00005 $0.00116
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00058

Security

Grade A, and why

designer-animation scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/bake_animation_frames.py, scripts/list_animation_parameters.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Designer Animation

Honest capability boundary

Substance 3D Designer has no timeline track, no keyframes, and no animation curve editor exposed through its Python SDK. Nothing here sets a keyframe, edits a curve, or plays back a clip.

Designer graphs can still produce animated output because a graph is a deterministic function of its inputs: change a time-like input and the graph evaluates differently. This skill uses that:

  • list_animation_parameters reports candidate time-like inputs by name convention (containing time, frame, phase, speed, duration, animation, or offset), at both graph level and node level.
  • bake_animation_frames sweeps one of those parameters across a bounded range and exports one header-verified texture per step as an ordered frame set.

Frame rate and playback are downstream choices. This skill emits ordered frames plus the swept values, not a video file and not a timed clip.

Discovery before baking

list_animation_parameters is read-only and reports, for each candidate, its current value plus read_only and connected flags. A candidate that is read-only or already connected cannot be driven by bake_animation_frames without rewiring, so confirm the target before baking.

The result is explicitly marked as name-matched discovery, not a verified animation binding. Designer has no authoritative animation parameter to read.

Bounded and reversible

  • Series length is bounded to 64 steps and values to ±1,000,000.
  • The output directory must be fresh, so a stale file can never be reported as a new result.
  • The swept parameter is restored to its original value if any step fails.
  • Every exported file is header-verified against the SDK-reported dimensions.

designer-particles uses the same engine for seed-variation tiles and designer-dynamics for integer iteration passes.

Files

What ships with it

3 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

designer-animation is a skill published in the GitHub repository dcc-mcp/dcc-mcp-substance3d-designer (3 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 26 tokens to every session and 578 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-20.
