multivariable-vector-calculus

multivariable-vector-calculus is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from hamzabellouch/agent-skills. It costs 69 tokens per session (503 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to multivariable and vector calculus, the study of functions with several inputs and fields in two or three dimensions. It covers derivatives, multiple integrals, and major theorems about vector fields.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for gradients, Jacobians, constrained maxima and minima, double or triple integrals, line and surface integrals, and Green's, Stokes', or the divergence theorem.
Why use it?
It helps turn difficult 2D and 3D calculus questions into structured steps, while explaining which derivative, integral, or theorem applies.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00069 $0.00503
Opus 5.5 $0.00028 $0.00201
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00101

Security

Grade A, and why

multivariable-vector-calculus scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

What it actually says

Multivariable & Vector Calculus

Differentiation

  • Partial derivatives, gradient grad f (direction of steepest ascent, perpendicular to level sets), directional derivative D_u f = grad f . u.
  • Chain rule with Jacobian; total differential; implicit function theorem; Taylor expansion with Hessian.
  • Critical points: grad f = 0; classify with Hessian (D = f_xx f_yy - f_xy^2 > 0 and f_xx > 0 min; D < 0 saddle).
  • Lagrange multipliers: grad f = lambda grad g with g = c; for several constraints sum of multipliers; KKT for inequalities.

Integration

  • Double/triple integrals; Fubini; order swap; polar (r dr dtheta), cylindrical (r), spherical (rho^2 sin phi); general change of variables |det J|.
  • Gaussian integral integral e^{-x^2} dx = sqrt(pi).
  • Surface area, volume, mass, center of mass, moments of inertia.

Vector fields

  • div F = sum dF_i/dx_i; curl F; Laplacian; identities curl grad = 0; div curl = 0; grad(fg) etc.
  • Line integrals of F . dr; conservative field iff curl F = 0 on simply connected domain; potential function.
  • Green: closed loop integral (P dx + Q dy) = double integral (Q_x - P_y) dA.
  • Stokes: closed loop integral F . dr = surface integral curl F . dS.
  • Divergence (Gauss): closed surface integral F . dS = volume integral div F dV.
  • Generalized Stokes: integral over boundary of omega = integral over region of d omega (differential forms).
  • Curvilinear coordinates: scale factors h_i, grad/div/curl formulas.

Typical workflow

Sketch region -> pick coordinates fitting symmetry -> set limits carefully -> compute -> sanity-check sign/orientation and use theorem shortcuts to turn hard integrals into easy ones.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

multivariable-vector-calculus is a skill published in the GitHub repository hamzabellouch/agent-skills (8 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 69 tokens to every session and 503 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-17.
