aseprite-pixel-art

aseprite-pixel-art is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ZhangDongyang800/Aseprite_MCP. It costs 0 tokens per session (3,935 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A pixel-art workflow for Aseprite, an editor for small raster images and frame-by-frame animations used in games.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create or refine sprites, tilesets, icons, effects, buildings, and animations such as walking, attacking, or taking damage.
Why use it?
It gives game assets a repeatable drawing and checking process instead of relying on improvised pixels. It is intended for pixel art, not vector images, high-resolution painting, or 3D.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.03935
Opus 5.5 $0.00000 $0.01574
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00787
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00394

Security

Grade A, and why

aseprite-pixel-art scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 15d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 5 executable files (examples/potion-icon/build.py, examples/potion-icon/potion.py, examples/slime-hop/build.py, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Aseprite pixel art

This skill turns the Aseprite MCP's three tools into a professional pixel-art production pipeline. It is a drawing and QA discipline, not a prompt collection. The MCP executes; this skill decides what to draw, how to verify it, and when to stop.

Use it for static assets, animated sprites, tilesets, UI icons, effects, and audits. Do not use it for vector illustration, high-resolution painting, or 3D. If the task is “generate a photorealistic image”, this is the wrong tool.

Non-negotiables

  1. Design before drawing. Plan the silhouette, palette, canvas, light, layers, and frames before the first MCP call. Never freehand random pixels and hope.
  2. Use a grid source. Full-frame art goes through paint_grid; one draw_pixel per pixel is a token and consistency failure. draw_pixel is for 1–5 pixel corrections.
  3. One palette per asset/set. Lock it before painting. Every colour must earn its place; no near-duplicates, no off-palette colours, no accidental semi-transparency.
  4. Silhouette first. If the black-filled shape does not read at 1×, stop and fix the shape before shading.
  5. Inspect after every material change. Use inspect for the current frame, then export frames for sequence QA. Metrics are evidence, not a substitute for looking.
  6. Clear before a full repaint. paint_grid skips . and leaves old pixels. Clear the target cel in the same atomic batch; otherwise ghosts survive.
  7. Set the palette before painting an indexed document. Draw ops now map each hex to the sprite palette; index 0 remains Aseprite's transparent index. Default to RGB; use indexed only when the project needs it, call set_palette first, and verify metrics.palette.
  8. Deliverables are files, not claims. Save the .ase, export the PNG/GIF/sheet, and verify the actual outputs. A green envelope is not a finished asset.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

aseprite-pixel-art is a skill published in the GitHub repository ZhangDongyang800/Aseprite_MCP (17 stars, last pushed 4d ago), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 3,935 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-22.
