write-latex

write-latex is a skill for Claude Code from cboone/agent-harness-plugins. It costs 55 tokens per session (780 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A style guide for LaTeX, a system for writing documents with mathematical notation, citations, and precise page layouts.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to write or review mathematical documents, formulas, LaTeX macros, and bibliographies.
Why use it?
It helps avoid outdated commands and inconsistent mathematical formatting in .tex, BibTeX, and embedded LaTeX content.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00055 $0.00780
Opus 5.5 $0.00022 $0.00312
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00011 $0.00156
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00078

Security

Grade A, and why

write-latex scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Write LaTeX

Apply the LaTeX conventions from the reference files below when creating or editing LaTeX source.

Core Principles

  1. Semantic markup over visual hacks -- use the right command for its meaning, not for its appearance
  2. Standard compliance -- follow AMS, ISO 80000-2, and IEEE conventions
  3. No deprecated constructs -- never use $$, eqnarray, \def, \centerline, \over, or two-letter font commands
  4. Macro discipline -- define \newcommand macros for recurring notation so a single edit propagates everywhere

Workflow

  1. Review against the essential checklist: ./references/essential/checklist.md
  2. For specific questions, consult the comprehensive references below

Reference Navigation

Quick reviews (default):

  • references/essential/checklist.md -- condensed, actionable rules

Deep dives by topic:

  • references/comprehensive/math-typesetting.md -- display math, environments, operators, delimiters, fractions, ellipsis, mathtools
  • references/comprehensive/iso-conventions.md -- ISO 80000-2: variables, constants, vectors, differential notation, custom macros
  • references/comprehensive/tables.md -- booktabs, caption placement, column alignment, complete examples
  • references/comprehensive/bibliography.md -- BibTeX: capital protection, DOI, journal abbreviations, backref
  • references/comprehensive/packages.md -- recommended packages with load order: mathtools, cleveref, hyperref, siunitx, microtype, and more
  • references/comprehensive/spacing-and-alignment.md -- math spaces, phantom alignment, intertext, Knuth's @ technique
  • references/comprehensive/common-mistakes.md -- deprecated commands and their modern replacements
  • references/comprehensive/figures-and-floats.md -- graphics formats, subcaption, float placement, caption conventions
  • references/comprehensive/macros-and-cross-refs.md -- macro design, cleveref cross-references, label prefixes
  • references/comprehensive/document-conventions.md -- equation punctuation, enumitem lists, unbreakable spaces, hyperref metadata

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

write-latex is a skill published in the GitHub repository cboone/agent-harness-plugins (2 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 55 tokens to every session and 780 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
