3dsmax-camera-lighting

3dsmax-camera-lighting is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from dcc-mcp/dcc-mcp-3dsmax. It costs 30 tokens per session (1,976 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A 3ds Max skill for creating and inspecting cameras and lights, including a basic three-point lighting setup. It can also select the active render camera.

In plain words
What is it for?
Building review lighting rigs, creating cameras and simple lights, checking their properties, and choosing the render camera.
Why use it?
It removes repetitive scene setup and checks camera and light targets before changing the scene.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00030 $0.01976
Opus 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00790
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00395
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00198

Security

Grade A, and why

3dsmax-camera-lighting scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 10 executable files (action_create_camera.py, action_create_light.py, action_create_renderer_light.py, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

3ds Max Camera And Lighting Tools

Create cameras and basic lights, inspect camera/light properties, set the active render camera, build a simple three-point review light rig, and create Arnold / Corona / photometric lights through create_renderer_light. Tools validate camera and light targets before scene mutation and read every written control back from the host.

Light providers

lighting_capabilities reports which providers the active host can build, the light shapes and photometric units each provider declares, how the active renderer is routed, and the native property candidates for every control. Pass probe=true to build one throwaway light per available factory, record which controls the host exposes and which enum indices it accepts, and then delete it again (the deletion is verified). Because probe=true creates and deletes nodes, the tool is declared as a mutating action rather than a read-only tool.

create_renderer_light builds up to 32 lights in one transaction through one provider (auto follows the active renderer):

Provider Kinds Factories
arnold area, dome, photometric aiAreaLight, aiSkyDomeLight, aiPhotometricLight
corona area, sun, sky CoronaLight, CoronaSun, CoronaSky
photometric area, photometric, sun mrAreaOmni, mrAreaSpot, FreeLight, TargetLight
standard omni, spot, directional, skylight OmniLight, FreeSpot, DirectionalLight, Skylight
vray area, sun VRayLight (delegates to create_vray_light)

Supported controls and the enum tables each provider declares:

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

3dsmax-camera-lighting is a skill published in the GitHub repository dcc-mcp/dcc-mcp-3dsmax (9 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 30 tokens to every session and 1,976 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
