systemapi-query-main-thread

systemapi-query-main-thread is a skill for Claude Code from dyCuong03/unity-agent-team. It costs 34 tokens per session (560 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A Unity ECS way to loop over entities matching component filters on the main thread using a generated query. Read-only and writable access are declared separately.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for small or non-parallelizable per-entity updates and work that must interleave with other main-thread operations.
Why use it?
It removes manual query and type-handle setup for straightforward main-thread entity work.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00034 $0.00560
Opus 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00224
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00007 $0.00112
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00056

Security

Grade A, and why

systemapi-query-main-thread scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

SystemAPI Query — Main Thread Iteration

Intent

Iterate matching entities on the main thread using a concise, source-generated foreach that declares read/write intent and eliminates manual type handle boilerplate.

Use When

Per-entity logic that must run on the main thread, is not parallelizable, or needs to interleave with other main-thread operations. One query, straightforward per-entity work.

Avoid When

The work is parallelizable and entity count is large — use IJobEntity.ScheduleParallel instead. Avoid when cross-entity lookup is needed (use ComponentLookup). Avoid for chunk-level control (use IJobChunk).

Senior Pattern

  • SystemAPI.Query<RefRW<A>, RefRO<B>>() — source-generated, cached query.
  • RefRW for components you write; RefRO for components you only read.
  • Chain .WithAll() / .WithNone() / .WithAny() for query filtering.
  • Do not mutate archetypes (AddComponent, RemoveComponent) inside the loop — use ECB.

Code Template

[BurstCompile]
public void OnUpdate(ref SystemState state)
{
    float dt = SystemAPI.Time.DeltaTime;
    foreach (var (transform, speed) in
        SystemAPI.Query<RefRW<LocalTransform>, RefRO<MoveSpeed>>()
            .WithAll<IsActive>())
    {
        transform.ValueRW.Position +=
            math.forward(transform.ValueRO.Rotation) * speed.ValueRO.Value * dt;
    }
}

Anti-Patterns

  • Using RefRW on a component you only read — creates a false write dependency that serialises parallel jobs.
  • Calling EntityManager.AddComponent / RemoveComponent inside the foreach — invalidates the iterator.
  • Rebuilding the query inside OnUpdate without caching — minor overhead but unnecessary.
  • Using SystemAPI.Query when you need the Entity itself — add Entity as the first query parameter.

Runtime Risks

  • Archetype mutation inside loop: iterator invalidation, undefined behavior.
  • RefRW misuse on read-only data: job safety system reports false conflicts.

Performance Notes

Source-generated query is cached after first use. Equivalent to manual IJobChunk iteration in throughput. Main-thread bound — does not utilize worker threads.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

systemapi-query-main-thread is a skill published in the GitHub repository dyCuong03/unity-agent-team (7 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 34 tokens to every session and 560 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-02.
