singular-positioning-clarity

singular-positioning-clarity is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from peterod99/consultant-skills. It costs 36 tokens per session (962 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A positioning exercise for consultants who offer too many services or describe their work too broadly. It produces one sentence stating what they do, who they help, and what changes as a result.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps narrow an elevator pitch, remove extra services from the main message, and test whether the positioning is specific enough.
Why use it?
It makes an unclear offer easier for buyers and referrers to understand and repeat accurately.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00036 $0.00962
Opus 5 $0.00018 $0.00481
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00192
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00096

Security

Grade A, and why

singular-positioning-clarity scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Singular Positioning Clarity

When to use

Your positioning has become unfocused. You describe yourself with "and also" language. You're pitching different things to different buyers. Your elevator pitch is longer than an elevator ride. You've noticed that referrals are vague ("I have a friend who does consulting stuff") instead of specific. You need a single statement that a buyer can repeat to others.

The framework

  1. Write your positioning as one sentence. Not a paragraph. Not a tagline. One sentence. It must contain: what you do, who you do it for, and what changes as a result. No qualifiers like "also help with" or "provide additional." One focus.

  2. Test the sentence against three questions. Can a stranger on the phone repeat this back to you accurately after hearing it once? Would this sentence rule out some business you'd normally take? Can you say this sentence with conviction, without hedging or softening language?

  3. Kill every "and also." "I help SaaS founders scale sales and also improve customer retention and also build advisory boards." Pick one. The others are either sub-problems of the main one or they belong to a different positioning. Resist the urge to be more valuable by listing more things.

  4. Embed the outcome, not the activity. Bad: "I do sales process consulting for mid-market companies." Good: "I help mid-market companies move from founder-dependent sales to repeatable, scalable pipeline generation." The first is what you do. The second is what changes in their business.

  5. Make it a test for inbound work. When someone asks "Can you help us with X?" your positioning either clarifies that X is exactly what you do, or it doesn't. If it doesn't, you say no. Positioning that doesn't filter work isn't positioning, it's a wish list.

How to apply it

A consultant started with: "I help growing companies optimize their operations, improve their sales processes, and build strong executive teams." That's three distinct problems. After reflection, she realized 70% of her revenue and deepest expertise came from one: helping mid-market companies transition from chaos to structured sales operations as they scaled from $5M to $30M revenue.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

singular-positioning-clarity is a skill published in the GitHub repository peterod99/consultant-skills (2 stars, last pushed 4mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 36 tokens to every session and 962 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
