nwn-mcp: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/adventure-quests/SKILL.md

adventure-quests is a skill for Claude Code from Txpple/nwn-mcp. It costs 60 tokens per session (4,814 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A quest-building step for a Neverwinter Nights adventure. It reads the adventure plan and adds quest journals, items, conditional actions, and branching conversations to existing characters.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to implement multi-stage quests, add journal updates and quest items, and attach condition-based conversation branches to existing NPCs.
Why use it?
It removes the need to manually turn a written plot into connected quest logic and dialogue.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00060 $0.04814
Opus 5 $0.00030 $0.02407
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00963
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00481

Security

Grade A, and why

adventure-quests scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 436 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Quests

Sub-skill of /create-adventure. Reads all prior sections of adventure.md, then implements the quest objectives defined in the plot: journal entries, quest items, condition/action scripts, and multi-stage dialog trees. Modifies existing NPC dialogs in-place — adds condition-gated root entries and quest conversation branches to the dialogs created by /adventure-actors. Downstream skills (/adventure-challenges, /adventure-affordances, /adventure-rewards) layer combat, loot, and XP on top.

Prerequisites

  • adventure.md must exist in the MCP temp directory ($MCP_FOLDER_TEMP, defaults to $TEMP/nwn-mcp or /tmp/nwn-mcp) and contain completed ## Plot, ## Areas, ## Environment, and ## Actors sections.
  • A module must be loaded. If none is loaded, call load_module using the module name from adventure.md.

Workflow

Fully autonomous. Make all decisions based on the plot document and existing module state — do NOT ask the user for input.

Pre-Check: Validate adventure.md

Read adventure.md from the MCP temp directory. Verify these sections exist and are non-empty:

  • ## Module
  • ## Plot
  • ## Areas
  • ## Environment
  • ## Actors

If any required section is missing or contains no content below its heading: STOP. Output: "ERROR: adventure.md is missing required section [name]. The prerequisite skill has not run or failed. Cannot proceed."

Phase 1: Read Adventure Context

Read adventure.md. Extract from all sections:

From ## Plot:

  • Quest objectives — what the player must accomplish (fetch items, talk to NPCs, explore locations, solve puzzles)
  • Key NPCs — name, role, location, quest involvement
  • Antagonists — who opposes the player
  • Locations — where quest events happen
  • Challenges — what stands between the player and objectives
  • Loot & Economy — any quest-relevant items mentioned

From ## Areas:

  • Resrefs — area identifiers for visualize_area calls
  • Transitions — how areas connect (shapes quest flow)

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

adventure-quests is a skill published in the GitHub repository Txpple/nwn-mcp (11 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 60 tokens to every session and 4,814 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
