rpg-art-director

rpg-art-director is a skill for Claude Code from vstrapasson/rpg-marketplace. It costs 239 tokens per session (2,345 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A system-independent tool that turns a tabletop campaign's story into consistent image-generation prompts. It creates a visual style guide covering elements such as medium, colours, lighting, era, and recurring motifs, but it does not create the images.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to write prompts for portraits, locations, symbols, and other campaign artwork while keeping their visual identity consistent.
Why use it?
It prevents campaign artwork from looking unrelated when images are made at different times or with different image models.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00239 $0.02345
Opus 5 $0.00120 $0.01172
Sonnet 5 $0.00048 $0.00469
Haiku 4.5 $0.00024 $0.00234

Security

Grade A, and why

rpg-art-director scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

RPG Art Director (system-agnostic, dark-leaning by default)

What this skill is for

Turn the fiction the kit already wrote into image-generation prompts, and keep every image looking like the same campaign. The worldbuilding skills describe how a place feels and how an NPC's tell reads; this skill converts that latent visual material into prompts you can paste into an image generator — and anchors all of them to one campaign visual style bible so the art coheres instead of drifting model-to-model, session-to-session.

This skill is system-agnostic — it deals in subject, mood, composition, and palette, never stat blocks, item levels, or Archives of Nethys links. Like rpg-npc-creator and rpg-artifact-creator, it works for any system.

The default tone is dark-leaning (level 3 of 5) — the visual register inherits the campaign's tone; it does not reset it. See references/style-bible.md.

The honest boundary — this skill writes prompts, not images

Image generation is not callable from here. The project's local pipeline (local/comfyui-gen-token.py → ComfyUI on :8000, then local/cutout-token.py) is a manual step the GM runs, and the generate-map MCP tool only makes top-down battlemaps. So this skill emits the prompt and documents the path to realize it — exactly the narrative-handout pattern (rpg-journal-forge): you generate the PNG, drop it into the Foundry data dir, and an existing forge skill assigns it. The skill never calls ComfyUI itself; it says so plainly and hands off. See references/output-template.md → "Realizing the art."

The core idea — visual coherence AND every image serving the story

Two layers, inseparable, mirroring how the rest of the kit works:

  1. The campaign's visual identity (the style bible). Medium and rendering, a core palette, a lighting language, an era and material sensibility, recurring motifs — the visual analogue of the campaign's tone level. Every prompt inherits it, so a portrait, a city establishing shot, and a faction emblem read as one world. This is the consistency layer.
  2. The entity's visual DNA (the prompt). The creators already plant the seed: an NPC's one or two telling details, a location's fantastic feature & the feel, a city's one image a visitor mentions, a faction's aesthetic markers, an item's material and the detail that shows its story. This skill extracts that DNA and renders it as a prompt where every visual element serves the node — provenance, cost, or identity — never idle decoration.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
