texture-workflow

texture-workflow is a skill for Claude Code from arjun988/blender-skills. It costs 41 tokens per session (984 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A Blender workflow for producing image textures from 3D models, including texture atlases, baked detail maps, decals, and physically based rendering maps. Baking transfers detail from a high-detail model to textures for a simpler one.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to bake normal, ambient-occlusion, roughness, and other maps; build atlases for modular assets; place decals; and reduce texture memory use.
Why use it?
Detailed models and many separate textures can use too much memory or run poorly in a game. This workflow turns detail into organized, engine-ready texture sets.

About the project

Blender Skills is a collection of 94 specialized skills that direct coding agents to perform Blender tasks across modeling, production, technical art, and export workflows. It is for Blender artists and users of Cursor, Claude Code, Kiro, and Codex, with execution through Blender MCP. The catalogue entries provide the skills, instruction, MCP integration, and plugin used in that agent-driven workflow.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00041 $0.00984
Opus 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00394
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00197
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00098

Security

Grade A, and why

texture-workflow scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Texture Workflow

Bake high-poly detail to efficient texture sets. Optimize memory. Engine-ready outputs.

When to Use

  • Baking sculpt detail to normal maps
  • Creating texture atlases for modular kits
  • PBR texture set generation
  • Decal placement and blending
  • Texture memory optimization

Workflow

High/Low Poly Setup → Cage Setup → Bake Maps → Composite
→ Atlas Pack → Engine Format Export → Validation

Standard PBR Texture Set

Map Format Notes
Base Color sRGB PNG No embedded AO
Normal Linear PNG OpenGL convention unless engine specifies
Roughness Linear PNG Single channel
Metallic Linear PNG Single channel
AO Linear PNG Multiply in shader, not base color
Height Linear PNG Optional parallax
Emission sRGB PNG Mask-based
ORM Packed Linear PNG R=AO, G=Roughness, B=Metallic (Unreal)

Naming: T_[Asset]_[Map] per ../references/naming-conventions.md

Bake Setup

1. Low-poly mesh with UVs (active)
2. High-poly mesh (sculpt or detail) — selected
3. Cage extrusion: 0.01–0.05m (adjust per asset scale)
4. Ray distance: match cage
5. Bake margin: 16px minimum
6. Anti-aliasing: enabled

Maps to Bake

Map Source Priority
Normal High→Low Required
AO High or low (cavity) Required
Curvature High sculpt Wear masks
Position High Optional (blending)
Thickness Subsurface meshes Characters

Texture Atlas Strategy

Modular kits share one atlas:

1. All modules UV'd to shared 0–1 or UDIM space
2. Bake each module to atlas regions
3. Trim sheet areas for repeating detail
4. Single material references atlas
5. Document region map for artists

Decals

  • Decal mesh projected on surface
  • Separate UV channel or atlas region
  • Blend via alpha mask
  • Limit decal overdraw in engine

Memory Optimization

Technique Savings
ORM packing 3 textures → 1
Shared atlas N materials → 1 texture
Lower res on hidden surfaces 50%+ memory
BC compression in engine 4:1 or 6:1
Trim sheets Reuse detail across assets

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
