asset-pipeline-automation

asset-pipeline-automation is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from 0xheycat/isometric-game-skills. It costs 35 tokens per session (431 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A one-command process that turns generated game sprites into a packed image atlas, its JSON description, and a map ready for the game. An image atlas stores many small images in one larger file.

In plain words
What is it for?
Cleaning sprite backgrounds, packing sprites, generating JSON, checking references, and running the asset build in CI so broken art does not ship.
Why use it?
It removes repeated manual cleanup and packing, and catches missing sprites or mismatched data before they reach the game.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00035 $0.00431
Opus 5 $0.00017 $0.00216
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00086
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00043

Security

Grade A, and why

asset-pipeline-automation scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Asset Pipeline Automation

Overview

Manual asset handling does not scale past a few sprites. This skill builds a one-command pipeline: clean -> pack atlas -> emit JSON -> validate, so artists regenerate and the game just updates.

When to Use

  • You regenerate assets often and redo packing by hand.
  • Atlas/JSON drifts out of sync with the sprites.
  • You want a reproducible build step for art.

Process

  1. Define input (raw generated sprites) and output (atlas + JSON + map) folders.
  2. Script step 1: background cleanup (see transparent-cutout-cleanup).
  3. Script step 2: atlas packing + JSON (see spritesheet-atlas-packing).
  4. Script step 3: validate every referenced sprite exists in the atlas.
  5. Make it one command (npm run assets) and idempotent.
  6. Fail loudly if a sprite is missing or an anchor is undefined.
  7. Run it in CI so broken assets never ship.
npm run assets # clean -> pack -> emit json -> validate

Rationalizations (Stop Lying to Yourself)

Excuse Reality
"Packing by hand is fine for now" It will not be fine at 100 sprites. Automate early.
"I will validate manually" Manual validation misses one sprite and ships a hole. Automate the check.

Red Flags - STOP if you catch yourself:

  • Manual atlas packing on every art change.
  • Atlas and JSON drifting out of sync.
  • No validation that referenced sprites exist.

Verification

You are NOT done until every box is checked:

  • One command rebuilds atlas + JSON from raw sprites.
  • Pipeline validates all references and fails loudly.
  • Build is idempotent and runs in CI.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

asset-pipeline-automation is a skill published in the GitHub repository 0xheycat/isometric-game-skills (15 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 35 tokens to every session and 431 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
