isometric-art-direction

isometric-art-direction is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from 0xheycat/isometric-game-skills. It costs 32 tokens per session (447 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A style guide process for keeping an isometric game's art consistent. It records the viewing angle, lighting, colors, tile size, anchor point, shading, and reference image in one file.

In plain words
What is it for?
Defining the visual rules before asset generation, testing a few sample assets, and linking the shared rules to future prompts.
Why use it?
It prevents assets made at different times or by different people from looking like they belong to unrelated games.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00032 $0.00447
Opus 5 $0.00016 $0.00224
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00089
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00045

Security

Grade A, and why

isometric-art-direction scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Isometric Art Direction

Overview

The difference between a hobby project and a polished game is consistency. This skill produces a one-page style sheet that every other asset skill must obey, so 200 generated assets look like one game instead of a random asset dump.

When to Use

  • Before generating the first tile, sprite, or building.
  • Assets already look mismatched and need a unifying standard.
  • Multiple people or sessions will generate art.

Process

  1. Fix the projection: true 2:1 isometric (dimetric). Write it down.
  2. Fix the light direction (e.g. top-left) and keep it identical on every asset.
  3. Define a tight color palette (8-12 swatches) and forbid off-palette colors.
  4. Define the tile base size in pixels (e.g. 128x64) and the anchor point.
  5. Pick ONE shading style (soft painterly / cel / pixel) and one reference image.
  6. Write all of this into a single STYLE.md and link it from every asset prompt.
  7. Generate 3 test assets and confirm they look like the same game before scaling up.

Rationalizations (Stop Lying to Yourself)

Excuse Reality
"I will keep the style consistent in my head" Your head is not version-controlled. Write the style sheet.
"I can fix the style later" Restyling 150 assets later costs 10x more than agreeing now.

Red Flags - STOP if you catch yourself:

  • No written style sheet exists.
  • Light direction changes between assets.
  • Color palette grows uncontrolled with every generation.

Verification

You are NOT done until every box is checked:

  • A STYLE.md exists with projection, light, palette, scale, anchor, shading.
  • 3 test assets visibly belong to the same game.
  • Every asset prompt references the style sheet.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

isometric-art-direction is a skill published in the GitHub repository 0xheycat/isometric-game-skills (15 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 32 tokens to every session and 447 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
