houdini-export-preset

houdini-export-preset is a skill for Claude Code from dcc-mcp/dcc-mcp-houdini. It costs 76 tokens per session (1,051 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A library for saving Houdini render and export node settings as reusable JSON files. These settings are called presets and can cover formats such as Alembic, FBX, USD, geometry, and images.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to save, load, list, and delete export presets, or create a render/output node from a saved preset.
Why use it?
It avoids re-entering the same export options and helps a team reuse consistent settings across projects.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00076 $0.01051
Opus 5 $0.00038 $0.00526
Sonnet 5 $0.00015 $0.00210
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00105

Security

Grade A, and why

houdini-export-preset scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 5 executable files (scripts/_export_preset_common.py, scripts/delete_export_preset.py, scripts/list_export_presets.py, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

houdini-export-preset

JSON-backed export preset management for Houdini ROP networks. Sits next to houdini-interchange so an agent can:

  1. save_export_preset to persist a ROP node's export configuration as JSON
  2. load_export_preset to retrieve a saved preset (optionally create a ROP node from it)
  3. list_export_presets / delete_export_preset for library management

Tool groups

  • export-presets: save_export_preset, load_export_preset, list_export_presets, delete_export_preset — JSON files under a user-supplied library_dir (defaults to ~/.dcc-mcp/houdini/export_presets/, override with DCC_MCP_HOUDINI_EXPORT_PRESET_DIR).

Supported ROP types

Format ROP node type Typical output
alembic rop_alembic .abc
fbx rop_fbx .fbx
usd usdrender / usd_rop .usd / .usda / .usdc
geometry geometry .bgeo / .geo / .obj
ifd ifd .ifd (Mantra)
opengl opengl .png / .jpg (viewport)
redshift Redshift_ROP .exr (Redshift)
karma karma .exr (Karma)

Context limitations

  • Presets store the ROP node's parameters (what), not the SOP/LOP network that feeds it (how). A preset is transferable across scenes as long as a node with the matching source path exists.
  • load_export_preset with create_rop: true creates a ROP node inside /out (or the specified rop_parent_path) and wires it to the source node recorded in the preset when connect_source: true.

Tracer-bullet flow

  1. houdini_interchange__export_alembic(node_path="/obj/geo1", output_path="/tmp/test.abc")
  2. save_export_preset(rop_node_path="/out/alembic1", preset_name="character_alembic")
  3. list_export_presets() → find available presets
  4. load_export_preset(preset_name="character_alembic", create_rop=True, source_node_path="/obj/geo2") → recreate ROP for a different object

What ships with it

6 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
