houdini-pdg

houdini-pdg is a skill for Claude Code from dcc-mcp/dcc-mcp-houdini. It costs 46 tokens per session (469 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A tool for building and inspecting Houdini PDG/TOP networks, which are graphs that split procedural work into tasks and connect their dependencies. It can create nodes, connect them, inspect work-item state, and cook the graph.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create procedural task networks, wire generators and render-fetch nodes, apply bounded settings, inspect work items, and run a graph with blocking or nonblocking execution.
Why use it?
It helps an agent verify the task graph and read back whether work completed, failed, or remains incomplete instead of assuming that a cook succeeded.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00046 $0.00469
Opus 5 $0.00023 $0.00234
Sonnet 5 $0.00009 $0.00094
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00047

Security

Grade A, and why

houdini-pdg scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 6 executable files (scripts/_pdg_common.py, scripts/connect_pdg_nodes.py, scripts/cook_pdg_graph.py, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

houdini-pdg

Typed graph authoring and inspection for PDG/TOP networks. This complements houdini-hda-automation: that skill focuses on HDA validation and ROP chains, while this skill exposes graph construction, dependency wiring, and explicit work-item readback.

Tracer-bullet flow

  1. create_pdg_network(parent_path="/obj", network_name="topnet1")
  2. create_pdg_node(network_path="/obj/topnet1", node_type="genericgenerator")
  3. create_pdg_node(..., node_type="ropfetch", input_nodes=["/obj/topnet1/genericgenerator1"])
  4. inspect_pdg_graph(node_path="/obj/topnet1")
  5. cook_pdg_graph(node_path="/obj/topnet1", block=true)

Node types are passed to Houdini after identifier validation. The cook response uses hou.TopNode.getPDGNode().workItems for the requested task or direct TOP children. Uninitialized PDG nodes return unavailable counts. A nonblocking cook returns submitted; blocking cooks distinguish completed, failed, and incomplete, including canceled or failed work items. Cooking is never retried with different arguments after an exception. It does not infer a successful external artifact without a downstream render or publish verification.

What ships with it

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

houdini-pdg is a skill published in the GitHub repository dcc-mcp/dcc-mcp-houdini (12 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 46 tokens to every session and 469 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-07.
