maya-particles

maya-particles is a skill for Claude Code from dcc-mcp/dcc-mcp-maya. It costs 95 tokens per session (740 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A Maya tool for creating and configuring particle systems, which generate many small elements such as dust, sparks, rain, or debris. It supports both newer nParticle systems and older classic particles, plus emitters and geometry instances.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create particle systems and emitters, tune particle and emitter properties, instance geometry, and prepare particles for collision and caching workflows.
Why use it?
It provides a consistent way to create particle effects and set their appearance, motion, emission, collisions, and instanced geometry.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00095 $0.00740
Opus 5.5 $0.00038 $0.00296
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00019 $0.00148
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00074

Security

Grade A, and why

maya-particles scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 23d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 6 executable files (scripts/create_emitter.py, scripts/create_particle_instancer.py, scripts/create_particle_system.py, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

maya-particles (Authoring stage)

Typed wrappers around Maya's particle commands. Both particle families are covered:

  • nParticle (kind="nparticle") — Nucleus-driven, collides with nCloth / nRigid, cachable. The right default for new work.
  • classic particles (kind="classic") — legacy particle nodes, kept for compatibility with older rigs and MEL scripts.

Particle workflow

  1. create_particle_system — pick kind, set lifespan, lifespan_mode and particle_render_type up front.
  2. create_emitter — choose emitter_type; pass targets to connect it in one call, or omit and connect later.
  3. set_emitter_properties — tune rate, speed, speed_random, spread.
  4. set_particle_properties — tune the look: radius, opacity, particle_render_type, and physics: conserve, drag, mass, bounce.
  5. create_particle_instancer — replace point rendering with real geometry. Use cycle="sequential" with several source objects for debris variation. Maya's -cycle only accepts none or sequential; random is rejected.
  6. Collide with the world via maya-dynamics create_nrigid, then cache with maya-dynamics create_ncache.

Scale note

nParticle inherits the Nucleus solver's space_scale. If particles look like they are moving through treacle, check maya-dynamics set_nucleus_properties before touching any emitter value.

Scripts

  • create_particle_system - Create an nParticle or classic particle system
  • create_emitter - Create an omni / directional / surface / curve / volume emitter
  • create_particle_instancer - Instance source geometry onto a particle system
  • list_particles - List particle systems, emitters and instancers
  • set_emitter_properties - Edit rate, speed, spread and other emitter attributes
  • set_particle_properties - Edit particle look and physics attributes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

maya-particles is a skill published in the GitHub repository dcc-mcp/dcc-mcp-maya (60 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 95 tokens to every session and 740 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-23.
