wave7-idisposable-managed-component

wave7-idisposable-managed-component is a skill for Claude Code from dyCuong03/unity-agent-team. It costs 33 tokens per session (732 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A cleanup pattern for managed Unity ECS components that hold native resources such as NativeArray or NativeList. It releases those resources before the component or entity is removed.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when a managed ECS component owns disposable native data and may be removed or destroyed during a simulation.
Why use it?
Native resources do not always follow normal .NET garbage collection, so failing to release them can waste memory or leave resources active.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00033 $0.00732
Opus 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00293
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00007 $0.00146
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00073

Security

Grade A, and why

wave7-idisposable-managed-component scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

IDisposable Managed Component — Native Resource Cleanup

Intent

Safely release unmanaged or native resources held by a managed IComponentData when the component is removed or the entity is destroyed.

Use When

  • Your class IComponentData holds NativeArray, NativeList, or other IDisposable resources that must be freed
  • Native resources must be explicitly freed before structural change (RemoveComponent, DestroyEntity)

Avoid When

  • The component holds only managed .NET objects with their own GC lifecycle — IDisposable is unnecessary overhead
  • The native resource lifetime is managed externally (e.g., WorldUpdateAllocator) — no manual Dispose needed

Senior Pattern

public class NativeDataComponent : IComponentData, IDisposable
{
    public NativeArray<float> Buffer;

    public void Dispose()
    {
        if (Buffer.IsCreated) Buffer.Dispose();
    }
}

// CORRECT — Dispose before removing:
entityManager.GetComponentObject<NativeDataComponent>(entity).Dispose();
entityManager.RemoveComponent<NativeDataComponent>(entity);

// CORRECT — Dispose before destroy (use cleanup system pattern):
[UpdateInGroup(typeof(InitializationSystemGroup))]
public partial class NativeDataCleanupSystem : SystemBase
{
    protected override void OnUpdate()
    {
        var ecb = new EntityCommandBuffer(Allocator.Temp);

        // PendingDestroy tag signals intent to destroy:
        foreach (var (nativeData, entity) in
            SystemAPI.Query<NativeDataComponent>()
                     .WithAll<PendingDestroy>()
                     .WithEntityAccess())
        {
            nativeData.Dispose();
            ecb.DestroyEntity(entity);
        }

        ecb.Playback(EntityManager);
        ecb.Dispose();
    }
}

Anti-Patterns

  • Removing the component without calling Dispose — native memory leak; no automatic ECS lifecycle hook calls Dispose.
  • Relying on the GC to call Dispose — GC finalizers are not guaranteed to run; and NativeArray leak detection fires immediately.
  • Storing a managed component with native resources without IDisposable — leak is undetectable until native memory exhaustion.
  • Calling Dispose inside a job — managed component Dispose must run on the main thread.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

wave7-idisposable-managed-component is a skill published in the GitHub repository dyCuong03/unity-agent-team (7 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 33 tokens to every session and 732 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-02.
