assets-get-data

assets-get-data is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from IvanMurzak/Unity-MCP. It costs 50 tokens per session (1,830 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A Unity asset inspection tool that returns the saved fields and properties of an asset file.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it after finding an asset to read all its data or only selected fields and nested values.
Why use it?
It lets you examine an asset's stored data without manually opening it and checking every setting.

About the project

Unity-MCP connects AI coding agents to the Unity game engine through MCP, letting them work with the Unity Editor and running games. It is used by game developers to generate code, automate development and testing, debug projects, and add AI-driven behavior to games. The catalogue entries provide skills, instructions, an MCP integration, and settings for operating this workflow.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00050 $0.01830
Opus 5 $0.00025 $0.00915
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00366
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00183

Measured 5d ago against content hash 126e97857924, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

assets-get-data scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Assets / Get Data

Get asset data from the asset file in the Unity project. It includes all serializable fields and properties of the asset. Use 'assets-find' tool to find asset before using this tool.

Path-scoped reads (token-saving)

Supply paths (a list of paths) to read only the listed fields/elements via Reflector.TryReadAt, or viewQuery (a ViewQuery) to navigate to a subtree and/or filter by name regex / max depth / type via Reflector.View. These two parameters are mutually exclusive — supply at most one. When neither is supplied the full asset is serialized (backwards compatible).

Path syntax

fieldName, nested/field, arrayField/[i], dictField/[key]. Leading #/ is stripped.

How to Call

unity-mcp-cli run-tool assets-get-data --input '{
  "assetRef": "string_value",
  "paths": "string_value",
  "viewQuery": "string_value"
}'

For complex input (multi-line strings, code), save the JSON to a file and use:

unity-mcp-cli run-tool assets-get-data --input-file args.json

Or pipe via stdin (recommended):

unity-mcp-cli run-tool assets-get-data --input-file - <<'EOF'
{"param": "value"}
EOF

Troubleshooting

If unity-mcp-cli is not found, either install it globally (npm install -g unity-mcp-cli) or use npx unity-mcp-cli instead. Read the /unity-initial-setup skill for detailed installation instructions.

Input

Name Type Required Description
assetRef any Yes Reference to UnityEngine.Object asset instance. It could be Material, ScriptableObject, Prefab, and any other Asset. Anything located in the Assets and Packages folders.
paths any No Optional. List of paths to read individually via Reflector.TryReadAt. Path syntax: 'fieldName', 'nested/field', 'arrayField/[i]', 'dictField/[key]'. Mutually exclusive with 'viewQuery'.
viewQuery any No Optional. View-query filter routed through Reflector.View — combines a starting Path, a case-insensitive NamePattern regex, MaxDepth, and an optional TypeFilter. Mutually exclusive with 'paths'.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
