editor-selection-get

editor-selection-get is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from IvanMurzak/Unity-MCP. It costs 53 tokens per session (1,937 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A Unity Editor tool that reports which objects or assets are currently selected. Unity is a game development editor, and a GameObject is an item in a scene, such as a character, camera, or light.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to inspect the current selection before another tool changes or reads objects in a Unity scene or prefab.
Why use it?
It avoids manually checking the Unity interface to learn what is selected. Optional details can show the active object, transforms, instance IDs, and asset identifiers.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00053 $0.01937
Opus 5 $0.00026 $0.00968
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.00387
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00194

Security

Grade A, and why

editor-selection-get scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Editor / Selection / Get

Get information about the current Selection in the Unity Editor. Use 'editor-selection-set' tool to set the selection.

Toggles (default off where indicated to keep responses small)

  • includeGameObjects (default false) — populate GameObjects[].
  • includeTransforms (default false) — populate Transforms[] as ComponentRefs.
  • includeInstanceIDs (default false) — populate InstanceIDs[].
  • includeAssetGUIDs (default false) — populate AssetGUIDs[] from project-window selection.
  • includeActiveObject (default true) — populate ActiveObject as a generic ObjectRef.
  • includeActiveTransform (default true) — populate ActiveTransform as a ComponentRef.

ActiveGameObject and ActiveInstanceID are always populated.

How to Call

unity-mcp-cli run-tool editor-selection-get --input '{
  "includeGameObjects": false,
  "includeTransforms": false,
  "includeInstanceIDs": false,
  "includeAssetGUIDs": false,
  "includeActiveObject": false,
  "includeActiveTransform": false
}'

For complex input (multi-line strings, code), save the JSON to a file and use:

unity-mcp-cli run-tool editor-selection-get --input-file args.json

Or pipe via stdin (recommended):

unity-mcp-cli run-tool editor-selection-get --input-file - <<'EOF'
{"param": "value"}
EOF

Troubleshooting

If unity-mcp-cli is not found, either install it globally (npm install -g unity-mcp-cli) or use npx unity-mcp-cli instead. Read the /unity-initial-setup skill for detailed installation instructions.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
