profiler-start

profiler-start is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from IvanMurzak/Unity-MCP. It costs 32 tokens per session (435 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A Unity editor action that enables the runtime profiler and opens Unity's Profiler window. The Profiler window shows performance information such as frame timing while a project runs.

In plain words
What is it for?
Turning on Unity runtime profiling and opening the Profiler window for manual inspection. It provides a snapshot setup action rather than a stream of historical frame data.
Why use it?
It starts profiling in one repeatable action and safely reports the existing state if profiling is already enabled.

About the project

Unity-MCP connects AI coding agents to the Unity game engine through MCP, letting them work with the Unity Editor and running games. It is used by game developers to generate code, automate development and testing, debug projects, and add AI-driven behavior to games. The catalogue entries provide skills, instructions, an MCP integration, and settings for operating this workflow.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00032 $0.00435
Opus 5 $0.00016 $0.00217
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00087
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00044

Measured 5d ago against content hash 31660aaf7a5c, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

profiler-start scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Profiler / Start

Enables UnityEngine.Profiling.Profiler.enabled = true and opens Window > Analysis > Profiler via EditorApplication.ExecuteMenuItem. Returns true once the profiler is enabled.

Behavior

Uses only built-in Unity APIs (UnityEngine.Profiling, UnityEditor.EditorApplication). No external Unity package is required.

Snapshot-based: this tool does not stream historical frame data — use Unity's Profiler window directly for that.

How to Call

unity-mcp-cli run-tool profiler-start --input '{
  "nothing": "string_value"
}'

For complex input (multi-line strings, code), save the JSON to a file and use:

unity-mcp-cli run-tool profiler-start --input-file args.json

Or pipe via stdin (recommended):

unity-mcp-cli run-tool profiler-start --input-file - <<'EOF'
{"param": "value"}
EOF

Troubleshooting

If unity-mcp-cli is not found, either install it globally (npm install -g unity-mcp-cli) or use npx unity-mcp-cli instead. Read the /unity-initial-setup skill for detailed installation instructions.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
