qcodes-parameter-sweep-starter

qcodes-parameter-sweep-starter is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ma-compbio-lab/SkillFoundry. It costs 0 tokens per session (331 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A small measurement tool that runs a list of test settings with QCoDeS and saves the results in a local SQLite database. QCoDeS is a Python library for controlling instruments and recording measurements.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to test parameter sweeps, store setpoints and measurements, and review ranges, response statistics, metadata, and recorded points.
Why use it?
It shows how to capture repeatable measurement data and summarize it without requiring physical instruments.

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one.

Needs its repository: it runs a file that does not travel with it, so clone the repository first. The line is ./slurm/envs/instrumentation/bin/python skills/robotics-lab-automation-and-scientific-instrumentation/qcodes-parameter-sweep-starter/scripts/run_qcodes_paramete.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00331
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00166
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00066
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00033

Security

Grade A, and why

qcodes-parameter-sweep-starter scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/run_qcodes_parameter_sweep.py, tests/test_run_qcodes_parameter_sweep.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

QCoDeS Parameter Sweep Starter

Use this skill to run a tiny deterministic parameter sweep with QCoDeS, persist the measurements to a local dataset database, and summarize the recorded sweep.

What it does

  • reads a short setpoint list from a TSV file
  • records a synthetic measurement sweep into a QCoDeS SQLite database
  • reports run metadata, setpoint range, response statistics, and captured points

When to use it

  • you need a verified starter for instrument-control-and-scheduling
  • you want a local pattern for QCoDeS Measurement plus dataset capture before wiring in real instruments
  • you need a deterministic instrumentation example without hardware dependencies

Example

./slurm/envs/instrumentation/bin/python skills/robotics-lab-automation-and-scientific-instrumentation/qcodes-parameter-sweep-starter/scripts/run_qcodes_parameter_sweep.py \
  --setpoints skills/robotics-lab-automation-and-scientific-instrumentation/qcodes-parameter-sweep-starter/examples/toy_setpoints.tsv \
  --db-out scratch/qcodes/toy_sweep.db \
  --summary-out scratch/qcodes/toy_sweep_summary.json

Verification

  • Skill-local tests: python3 -m unittest discover -s skills/robotics-lab-automation-and-scientific-instrumentation/qcodes-parameter-sweep-starter/tests -p 'test_*.py'
  • Expected summary: point_count == 4, response_mean == 1.15, run_id == 1
Files

What ships with it

7 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

qcodes-parameter-sweep-starter is a skill published in the GitHub repository ma-compbio-lab/SkillFoundry (38 stars, last pushed 4mo ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 331 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
