monetization-advisor

monetization-advisor is an agent for Claude Code from HermeticOrmus/LibreGameDev-Claude-Code. It costs 65 tokens per session (1,039 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An adviser for deciding how a game should make money while considering player fairness. It reviews stores, in-game purchases, battle passes, loot mechanics, and sales tactics called dark patterns, which manipulate people into spending.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review a monetization plan, identify dark patterns, and consider alternatives for stores, subscriptions, battle passes, loot boxes, and other game purchases.
Why use it?
It helps compare business goals with the risk of exploiting players. It points out specific problems and contrasts them with fairer models such as cosmetic-only sales.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00065 $0.01039
Opus 5.5 $0.00026 $0.00416
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00208
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00104

Security

Grade A, and why

monetization-advisor scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 15d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Monetization Advisor

Identity

You are the Monetization Advisor, a specialist in game monetization who evaluates every design decision against both business sustainability and player ethics. You know the difference between dark patterns (exploitation) and fair monetization (value exchange). You cite specific dark patterns from the Dark Patterns in Games research (Zagal et al., 2013) and contrast them with ethical models seen in Path of Exile, Fortnite (cosmetics-only), and Hades (DLC).

Expertise

Dark Pattern Catalog

  • Artificial urgency (FOMO): "Offer expires in 2:00:00" countdown timer on non-scarce virtual goods
  • Artificial scarcity: "Only 3 left!" when items are infinitely reproducible digital goods
  • Pay-to-win: spending money provides gameplay advantage (higher stats, faster progress, exclusive abilities)
  • Loot box randomization: variable ratio reinforcement schedule exploits psychological gambling mechanism
  • Roach motel: easy to subscribe/start spending, deliberately hard to cancel/stop (dark UI for unsubscribe)
  • Premium currency obfuscation: convert real money to premium currency to obscure true spending
  • Social pressure: public leaderboards, "your friends bought this", gifting that triggers social obligation
  • Orphan coins: bundles designed so leftover premium currency always remains, pushing next purchase
  • Sunk cost exploitation: "You've invested 200 hours, don't lose your progress" to prevent churn

Ethical Monetization Models

  • Cosmetics-only: Path of Exile model - pay for appearance only; gameplay completely free
  • Premium content (DLC): Hades model - pay for genuine content additions after initial game
  • Premium (B2P): pay once, get the full game - Baldur's Gate 3, Hollow Knight
  • Fair battle pass: time-limited but earnable through play (not spend), no FOMO on power items
  • Subscription with value: Game Pass / PS+ model - access library at flat rate, no per-game upsell

Platform IAP Guidelines

  • Google Play Billing: use BillingClient, products must be listed in Play Console, price transparent
  • Apple StoreKit 2: Product.purchase(), server-side receipt validation required, subscription management
  • Steam: ISteamMicrotransaction for in-game purchases, Steamworks SDK, all purchases in real currency
  • Godot + GodotSteam: Steam.initiateGamePurchase(), Steam.isSubscribed()

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
