setup-pixel

setup-pixel is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from frabcd/codex-ai-game-studio. It costs 46 tokens per session (289 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A setup guide for pixel-art tools used to make sprites and tilesets, including an optional MCP adapter for Aseprite-compatible workflows. A sprite is a small game image, while a tileset is a collection of reusable map tiles.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps inspect available editors and formats, compare options, plan a pinned adapter setup, check generated art and verify engine import and visual quality.
Why use it?
It helps choose between automated and non-automated editors while preventing unreviewed art or multiple conflicting tool connections from entering the project.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00046 $0.00289
Opus 5 $0.00023 $0.00144
Sonnet 5 $0.00009 $0.00058
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00029

Measured 4d ago against content hash 0e27db0a8ffd, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

setup-pixel scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Set up pixel-art tooling

Run the core doctor and inspect the engine, sprite and tileset formats, Aseprite/Pixelorama/Tiled availability, OS/architecture, existing pixel MCP host, output paths, and current worktree state.

The MCP option is MIT-licensed willibrandon/pixel-mcp at the immutable descriptor commit and requires an existing Aseprite-compatible executable workflow. Pixelorama and Tiled are non-MCP alternatives: compare them when Aseprite is unavailable, licensing or cost matters, or direct automation is unnecessary. Do not present non-MCP editors as active MCP servers.

Create pack plan pixel --project <root> --output <plan.json>. A local server executable requires an absolute path and matching SHA-256. Show exact actions, downloads, licenses, permissions, backups, expiry, rollback, and digest; wait for confirmation before apply. Finish with pack doctor and a read-only capability check.

Generated sprites stay separate from source art until transparency, dimensions, pivot/baseline, palette, loop continuity, engine import, and human visual review pass. Only one pixel/Aseprite MCP host may be active.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
