sky-box

sky-box is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Shellishack/3d-web-game-dev-skills. It costs 0 tokens per session (1,212 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A reusable procedural sky system for a web-based 3D game. It creates an inside-facing sky dome with animated day and night colors, stars, and sun and moon objects.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to add a dynamic sky, sunrise or sunset colors, stars, sun and moon discs, and optional celestial glow to a Babylon.js game.
Why use it?
It provides a consistent way to represent changing time of day without building separate fixed sky images for every scene.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.01212
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00606
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00242
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00121

Security

Grade A, and why

sky-box scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Procedural Sky Dome and Celestial Bodies

Use this skill when creating a reusable dynamic sky for a web-based 3D game.

Pattern

Prefer a large inside-facing sky dome when the sky needs animated color, stars, sunrise/sunset gradients, or sun/moon direction. Use a static skybox only when the scene art is fixed and time of day does not matter.

The sky module should provide:

  • a dome mesh with depth writes disabled
  • a shader material or sky material with day/night uniforms
  • sun and moon disc meshes parented to the scene, marked as infinite distance or otherwise camera-relative
  • optional halo meshes or billboard planes for glow
  • texture loading for celestial bodies when custom art is needed
import { Mesh, MeshBuilder, Scene, ShaderMaterial, Vector3 } from '@babylonjs/core'

export interface SkyRig {
  skyMaterial: ShaderMaterial
  sunDisc: Mesh
  moonDisc: Mesh
}

export function createSkyRig(scene: Scene): SkyRig {
  const skyMaterial = new ShaderMaterial('sky-material', scene, { vertex: 'sky', fragment: 'sky' }, {
    attributes: ['position'],
    uniforms: ['worldViewProjection', 'dayAmount', 'moonAmount', 'starBoost', 'sunDirection'],
  })
  skyMaterial.backFaceCulling = false
  skyMaterial.disableDepthWrite = true

  const dome = MeshBuilder.CreateSphere('sky-dome', { diameter: 1600, segments: 32, sideOrientation: Mesh.BACKSIDE }, scene)
  dome.material = skyMaterial
  dome.infiniteDistance = true
  dome.isPickable = false

  const sunDisc = MeshBuilder.CreatePlane('sun-disc', { width: 70, height: 70 }, scene)
  const moonDisc = MeshBuilder.CreatePlane('moon-disc', { width: 55, height: 55 }, scene)
  for (const disc of [sunDisc, moonDisc]) {
    disc.billboardMode = Mesh.BILLBOARDMODE_ALL
    disc.infiniteDistance = true
    disc.isPickable = false
  }

  return { skyMaterial, sunDisc, moonDisc }
}

Shader Inputs

Keep shader uniforms generic:

  • dayAmount: 0 at night, 1 in daylight
  • moonAmount: inverse or separately shaped night visibility
  • starBoost: weather/biome multiplier
  • sunDirection: normalized direction for glow and horizon tint

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

sky-box is a skill published in the GitHub repository Shellishack/3d-web-game-dev-skills (5 stars, last pushed 3mo ago), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 1,212 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
