sprite-generate

sprite-generate is a skill for Codex from frabcd/codex-ai-game-studio. It costs 29 tokens per session (471 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow for creating consistent 2D game artwork, including sprites, tiles, portraits, and animation sheets. It also normalises files and checks that they import and animate correctly in the target engine.

In plain words
What is it for?
Planning sprite specifications, generating poses and animation frames, preparing engine-ready files, and recording their sources.
Why use it?
Small differences in size, lighting, alignment, transparency, or naming can make game artwork look inconsistent or fail during import.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00029 $0.00471
Opus 5 $0.00015 $0.00235
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00094
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00047

Security

Grade A, and why

sprite-generate scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Sprite Generate

Outcome

Create engine-ready 2D art that remains visually consistent across poses, directions, and frames.

Required inputs

  • art bible or reference images with rights
  • sprite purpose and camera
  • dimensions, palette, directions, frame count, and engine format

Ask for missing information only when it changes the route materially. Otherwise state conservative assumptions and proceed with read-only analysis.

Workflow

  1. Lock silhouette, palette, line weight, lighting direction, baseline, pivot, and scale in a sprite specification.
  2. Generate a single approved key pose before requesting a full sheet.
  3. Generate variants with fixed identity anchors and deterministic settings when supported.
  4. Normalize canvas, alpha, baseline, pivots, padding, palette, and filenames without overwriting sources.
  5. Preview every animation loop and import a copy into the target engine for a smoke test.

Expected artifacts

  • sprite specification
  • source generations
  • normalized sprites or atlas
  • loop previews
  • engine import evidence
  • provenance record

Workflow-specific gates

  • Check transparent edges, accidental matte colors, cropped silhouettes, duplicate frames, baseline drift, timing, and loop continuity.
  • For tiles, verify edge matching, terrain transitions, grid size, and representative map assembly.
  • Require human approval of the key pose and final before replacing any project asset.

Production completion gate

Before recommending production use, complete and report all seven gates:

  1. Rights, consent, code/model/dataset/output license, and generation-provenance checks.
  2. Technical format, naming, scale, color, metadata, and target-import validation.
  3. Visual and temporal consistency review across representative views and states.
  4. Runtime memory, frame-time, draw-call, streaming, and asset-budget checks.
  5. Playability and interaction smoke tests in the target runtime.
  6. Screenshot, capture, diff, or artifact-regression evidence with reproducible settings.
  7. Human approval before replacing source assets or promoting generated output.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
