blockbench-vanilla-textures

blockbench-vanilla-textures is a skill for Claude Code from jasonjgardner/blockbench-mcp-project. It costs 156 tokens per session (2,965 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A workflow for downloading original Minecraft Bedrock textures from Mojang's sample repository and applying them to Blockbench models, including face mapping, tinting, tiling, and PBR texture sets.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to texture Minecraft models with vanilla block files, including grass, leaves, water, large surfaces, and animated texture sets.
Why use it?
It avoids recreating Minecraft's standard textures by hand and handles differences between block names and model faces.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00156 $0.02965
Opus 5.5 $0.00062 $0.01186
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00031 $0.00593
Haiku 4.5 $0.00016 $0.00297

Security

Grade A, and why

blockbench-vanilla-textures scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/tint_texture.py, scripts/vanilla_texture.mjs), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Blockbench Vanilla Textures

Use Mojang's own texture files instead of painting or generating an imitation. Source: Mojang/bedrock-samples (resource_pack/textures/...), served by jsDelivr:

https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/Mojang/bedrock-samples@<ref>/resource_pack/textures/blocks/brick.png

<ref> is main or a release tag such as v1.26.50.4. Pin a tag when results must be reproducible. The names are Bedrock names, but the pixel art matches Java Edition for almost every block, so the files also work for Java and generic models after renaming where needed.

Load blockbench-use before changing the project, and blockbench-texturing for UV details.

License: the files are © Mojang AB and covered by the Minecraft EULA. They are fine for Minecraft content, add-ons, resource packs and personal work. If the user plans to sell the model outside Minecraft or bundle the textures into a non-Minecraft asset pack, say so once and let them decide. Do not strip the attribution the manifest records.

1. Map the Request to Vanilla Blocks

Translate the subject into block IDs: a brick wall becomes brick_block, a log cabin oak_log plus oak_planks, a castle stone_bricks plus cobblestone. Ask only when a name is genuinely ambiguous ("stone" or "wood") and the choice changes the look. Otherwise pick the obvious block and state it. Block IDs resolve per-face textures, including log tops, grass tops and crafting-table fronts. Java IDs mostly work; the exceptions (bricks → brick_block, grass_block → grass, …) are in names, tints and animation.

2. Fetch

Run the bundled resolver (Node 18+ or Bun, no dependencies). Script paths are relative to this skill folder.

node scripts/vanilla_texture.mjs search brick # find IDs/keys
node scripts/vanilla_texture.mjs fetch brick_block oak_log grass --out <workspace>/textures/vanilla
node scripts/vanilla_texture.mjs fetch grass oak_leaves --carried --out <dir> # pre-tinted inventory art
node scripts/vanilla_texture.mjs fetch brick_block --pbr --out <dir> # + texture_set.json, MERS, normal
node scripts/vanilla_texture.mjs fetch entity/pig/pig --out <dir> # any path under textures/
node scripts/vanilla_texture.mjs search zombie --tree --out <dir> # entities/UI: one GitHub API call, cached

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
