package-remove

A Unity Package Manager removal command for uninstalling a package from a Unity project. Unity Package Manager is Unity's system for adding and managing project packages.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to remove an installed package by ID from the project's manifest, while preventing removal of built-in packages or packages required by other packages.
Why use it?
It checks that the package is installed and reports Unity's error if removal fails. It also accounts for package resolution and the possible reload of the Unity project afterward.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00068 $0.00558
Opus 5 $0.00034 $0.00279

Security

Grade A, and why

package-remove scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Package Manager / Remove

Remove (uninstall) a package from the Unity project. This removes the package from the project's manifest.json and triggers package resolution. Note: Built-in packages and packages that are dependencies of other installed packages cannot be removed. Note: Package removal may trigger a domain reload. The result will be sent after the reload completes. Use 'package-list' tool to list installed packages first.

Inputs

  • packageId — package name (e.g. com.unity.textmeshpro). A trailing @<version> is stripped automatically before being passed to Client.Remove, so accidental versioned IDs still work.

Behavior

First verifies the package is installed via an offline Client.List — returns a clear PackageNotFound error if not. On removal failure, surfaces Unity's error message. On success, schedules a post-domain-reload notification so the response is delivered after Unity finishes the resolution.

How to Call

unity-mcp-cli run-tool package-remove --input '{
  "packageId": "string_value"
}'

For complex input (multi-line strings, code), save the JSON to a file and use:

unity-mcp-cli run-tool package-remove --input-file args.json

Or pipe via stdin (recommended):

unity-mcp-cli run-tool package-remove --input-file - <<'EOF'
{"param": "value"}
EOF

Troubleshooting

If unity-mcp-cli is not found, either install it globally (npm install -g unity-mcp-cli) or use npx unity-mcp-cli instead. Read the /unity-initial-setup skill for detailed installation instructions.

Input

Name Type Required Description
packageId string Yes The ID of the package to remove. Example: 'com.unity.textmeshpro'. Do not include version number.

Input JSON Schema

  "properties": {
    "packageId": {
      "type": "string"
    }
  },
  "required": [
    "packageId"
  ]
}

Output

This tool does not return structured output.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
